ArcView EMV Tool Extension

Combining entomological and GIS (Geographic Information Systems) know out, the Medical and Veterinary Entomology Dept. is, since few years, developing a specific Tool for mosquito monitoring and control, especially for Aedes albopictus (Tiger Mosquito).

The last release of EMV Tool is the 1.3 with the following functions:

• Automatic creation of a standardized monitoring network for mosquitoes, especially for Aedes albopictus
• Nearest Neighbour Analysis calculation
• Spatial statistics calculation (Moran’s I, Quadrat analysis, Correlograms, etc.)
• Mean distance traps calculation
• Voronoi surface calculation
• Palmtops data integration
• Max and min ovitraps number calculation to place in urban areas
• Monitoring and mapping standard grids creation
• Nearest Point Distance calculation
• Shape to Google Earth KML automatic conversion
• Larval indexes calculation (House Index, Container Index, Bretau Index, Premise Condition Index, etc.)
• Complaints extrapolation and statistics calculation
• Overview map automatic creation
• Simplified Join
• Tables and shapes sorting
• Buttons for layers, tables and layouts management

ArcView EMV Tool is then combined with ArcPad EMV Tool (GIS mobile) to support field technician for the data collection of the citizens complaints, entomological surveys, larval samplings and ovitraps placements. At the moment technicians are working to develop new functions for Chikungunya and West Nile Virus data management and to detect in advance possible outbeaks.
