Triggered by the unprecedented global spread of dengue and chikungunya viruses and outbreaks of Zika virus disease and yellow fever in 2015-2016, the World Health Organization developed the Global Vector Control Response (GVCR) as a strategic guidance to countries and development agencies for the strengthening of vector control as a fundamental approach to preventing disease and responding to outbreaks.
