“Emerging vector-borne disease: the role of Aedes mosquitoes”
9-10th May 2011, Cervia (RA), Italy

In the last years, the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) has given important practical contributions in the management of entomological monitoring data providing powerful tools to improve the understanding of data through visualization and analysis.
Mobile GIS are applications used to capture georeferenced data in the field and to integrate this data on Desktop or Web-Based GIS.
Starting from 2008, in the Emilia-Romagna Vector Surveillance program, an integrated Mobile and Desktop GIS system was developed to georeference ovitraps in Emilia- Romagna region and to report on maps the minimum ovitraps needed for each inhabited area based on Taylor’s equation (Carrieri et al. 2011).
