The risk of local transmission of chikungunya and dengue viruses starting from viremic travelers arriving from affected areas is realistic in southern Europe due to the presence of the vector Aedes albopictus. The first chikungunya outbreak in Europe has occurred in the Emilia-Romagna Region (Italy) in 2007 and this prompted the regional public health department to implement an Ae. albopictus monitoring and control plan. This paper presents the procedure developed for the quality control of the data collected by the ovitrap monitoring network. The quality control procedure is organized in four successive steps, the first is during the data acquisition, the second is automatic during the data processing, the third and fourth steps are conducted by technicians following a specific procedure. The paper also presents the result of the application of the quality control procedure on the monitoring data collected in the period 2012-2014 in the Emilia-Romagna region.
